Last year, a very wise man told Cassie about a conversation he and his wife were having while visiting our light show. They were discussing how much they were enjoying it, and he said to her something along the lines of – “And think, this is only their first year. I can’t wait to see what they do next year.” When I heard about his statement I laughed at first, but then I thought, “He’s right! I can’t just do the same thing over and over again.” From that point forward, I could hardly enjoy our show because I was already overcome with thinking about what needed to be “better for next year”. I knew I had to at least try to do more, and that plan to do more started in January of this year, as soon as we got all the lights taken down and packed away. The thing is, what seemed overwhelming at first has actually turned into so much enjoyment for me and I can’t wait for everyone to see what’s next.

I have been working all this year on how to make this year’s show bigger and better than last year’s. Don’t think I’m crazy though…... I just liken it to how some people love to woodwork and build furniture. For me at the moment – I LOVE to design and build light shows. 😎

And. . .

I hope you are as excited as I am about this year’s show! If you’re not yet, don’t worry. There’s still plenty of time to get pumped. 😉

As I close, I want to leave you with something bigger to think about. I go back to the wise man’s statement from the beginning of this blog – the concept he was proposing was simple. People and things should improve over time. Jesus illustrated this same principle with the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30. Note verses 20-21:

“And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’”

I hope I have made my light show better this year; but more importantly, I hope I continue to make my spiritual life better. I hope when the Lord returns, I can say, “Master, you delivered me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.” As I leave, how are you doing in getting “better each year”?

Thanks for taking a moment to read this blog and supporting us as we continue Fostering the Holidays.

P.S. – Please, no one tell Charles Pollard he was the wise man. None of us need him knowing that Cassie and I classified him as such. 😜
