Just A Little Crazy

I feel a strong need to confess something that has crossed my mind what seems like hundreds of times the past couple of weeks...
As I spend hours upon hours working on lights, programming lights, planning for lights, and putting up lights, there have been so many moments where I have had to come to grips with how crazy I must look to so many. People who know me understand that I overthink and overdo everything – so the excess Christmas lights – that’s one thing. To start in October though – that must look like a whole new level of crazy! Even in casual conversations, I feel myself playing it down to others. When people ask me about my lights, I feel strange even talking about it. I can see it in their eyes, “this guy is nuts”. And I get it. There are not many people in Mississippi, the south, the nation, or the world (besides maybe at Disneyworld) – throwing together a Light Show Extravaganza for Halloween.
But here I am doing it, holding my head high, and honestly can’t wait for it to start! And I am hoping to have it going this weekend! (which is basically the main point of this post!) I would have loved to have it running by October 1, but we have had to do some work in our yard and on our house recently that has put light installation a little behind schedule. That being said, it is my goal to have the Halloween show up and running by Saturday night. If you do come that first night, please be patient with us as I will be working all the kinks out of a brand new show, but I am PUMPED. I’m hoping all of you are as excited about it as we are! Please be checking our Facebook page occasionally for updates and information. We plan to post the times and anything pertinent such as breakdowns or changes. Thank you so much for all of your support. We cannot wait to see you all!
Closing Thoughts
As I was reflecting on what a crazy weirdo I must look like to people when they hear about my interesting hobby, I couldn’t help but reflect on the Biblical principle of Christians being different. The concept is brought to light in the Scriptures in the concept of being holy. There are several definitions for the word Holy, but the most common is “to set apart”. There are also many verses that could be used, but I will choose 1 Peter 1:13-16.
13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
According to Strong’s Concordance, the Greek word hagios (or versions of it) is mentioned around 230 times in the New Testament. According to Thayer’s Greek Lexicon and Strong’s Concordance, the word here in this text takes on the idea of being “set apart” because we are “morally pure, sinless, or upright”.
What I want to emphasize in this blog is that – yes, we are “set apart” (different, holy) – because we belong to God. To emphasize this – in the OT the Hebrew word for Holy, qodesh, is used approximately 431 times to explain how God is Holy. And even though the Holiness of God maybe difficult to explain or comprehend, it is not hard to see and know that He IS Holy. And the only way we become Holy is to belong to Him.
When it comes to my light show, being different may or may not be a good thing, but there is no doubt that being different (set apart, holy) is the right thing spiritually. And I thank God, that in Him, we can all be holy.
Thanks for taking a moment to read this blog and supporting us as we continue Fostering the Holidays.
